Tourist Tax

Our last day in Rome was not exactly well spent.  Baba, Julianna, and I agreed we didn’t want to pay the 100 euro round trip to Rome for the day, so we decided to kick back at the hotel. We found out quickly there wasn’t a whole lot to do in the area, and after we packed for London and ate breakfast, we were already bored. For supper, we walked over to the McDonalds, which seemed to be the only place to eat within walking distance and ate another round of tasteless burgers. I learned quickly I am not really a relaxing vacay kind of holiday-er.One interesting part about Italy I will remark on now, is that you have to pay a city tax upon check-out or check-in depending on your hotel and what you decide. We had prepaid for all of our hotels online, either with Air Miles or on Booking.com so this is a bit of an unexpected cost if you haven’t really been traveling. Depending on if you are staying in a 5 star hotel or just a hostel, the tourist tax per person per night can be anywhere from 1 euro to 7. For three people staying at one place for a few nights that can add up to almost 100 euros! That night we went to bed early, and were up before dawn to be at the Rome Ciampino airport for our six a.m. flight to London Stansted. The moon from our Ryanair flight from Rome Ciampino to London Stansted - September 2015
