Driving the West Highlands
Our day began driving the West Highlands north past Luss.
Derek and I drove through the beautiful Scottish Highlands, only stopping for pictures as we passed through the notorious Glencoe. It was a cooler day, so we didn’t hike for much time along the paths in the valley. The whole place took my breath away, it was certainly everything it’s said to be.
Derek and I stopped for lunch in Fort William, eating at the Grog & Gruel along their main street. The town must be quite the place in peak season. The cobblestone and historic downtown, views of Loch Linnhe, and access to Ben Nevis (UK’s highest mountain), make it a prime tourist location.
The Grog & Gruel wasn’t overly satisfying, but it worked for a quick bite.
Onwards we went to Dingwall, driving along the west coast of Loch Ness for much of the way, following the maps to the sleepy little northern town. We would spend time exploring Ness the following day. Overall, it was a great, but short day of exploring Scotland's West Highlands.
