Beating Jet Lag: Tips & Tricks

The worst jet lag I’ve ever experienced was in Amsterdam. As a person who NEVER gets jet lag, I wondered what I did wrong. More importantly, I wanted to know what I did right in the past. Here are a few tips to help you (and me) beat jet lag once and for all. Jet lag happens because your body is thrown off from its usual schedule causing you to be an utter wreck.jet lagNormally, I fly at night, allowing my body to get some zzz’s. I prefer red eyes because you’re not wasting precious vacation time and arriving at your destination during the day. I flew overnight to Amsterdam, same as always. The mistake I made was resting after our arrival. After sitting on the plane all night and sleeping, we weren’t ready for r&r. Day one’s itinerary is typically jam packed, so by the time I’m tucked in for the night, I’m sleeping. Day one in Amsterdam only consisted of getting to the AirBnB and finding a place to eat.AirbnbKeeping mealtimes consistent and healthy eating also plays a part in not having jet lag. After our amazing dinner (see here), I should have gone for a stroll, but it was chilly and nothing was opened in the Noord.  If you’re exhausted, you will sleep eventually. My major tip for beating jet lag: pretend everything is business as usual. Your body will be tricked and think everything is normal too.AirBnB bench
