Buffalo Mountain Lodge

After an excellent experience last winter at Emerald Lake Lodge, another Canadian Rocky Mountain Resort, I decided to give their other locations a try. One of them is Buffalo Mountain Lodge, nestled on top of Tunnel Mountain in Banff, Alberta.Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Staying at Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Arriving at Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a pleasure. The lobby was covered in Christmas decor, and classic holiday tunes played in the background (we came just before Christmas). The main lodge is everything you would expect of a rustic mountain retreat: timber framing, earth tones, fire crackling. The receptionist handed us our room keys (literally: keys) and off we went to discover our own little cabin in the woods.Christmas stone fireplace with bison headUpon entry, I immediately felt the coziness. Wood-burning fireplace, a king-size bed, and *gasp* a clawfoot bathtub completed the suite. Unlike Emerald Lake Lodge, this resort has wifi and a TV, so it’s not a complete offline getaway. Although, the peace and quiet remains! Out the backdoor is a breathtaking view of a snow-capped mountain, like icing on a cake.Rustic mountain retreat in the snow - CRMR Buffalo Mountain LodgeGreen mountain lodge doorrustic mountain retreatCozy rock fireplace - Buffalo Mountain Lodgeclawfoot bathtub in a rustic mountain retreat cozy king size bed in a mountain retreatCozy rustic bed in a warm light glowMountain view - Canadian Rocky Mountains

Dining at Buffalo Mountain Lodge

If you’re hungry (and I’m sure you are after the long drive in), Sleeping Buffalo in the main lodge is a gastronomist’s dream. Local and seasonal delights are brought from the resorts very own ranch, and there is a wide selection of Canadian-meat dishes to the carnivore’s delight. Have the caribou; you won’t regret it!Sleeping Buffalo restaurantSleeping Buffalo restaurantCaribou dinner in Banff, Albertaelk dinner in BanffA stay here is not complete without wandering around the property. The cabins are simply idyllic - particularly when covered with snow, in my opinion. There’s a little cafe to warm up with drinks and snacks. The large outdoor hot tub *might* just be the trick to warm up after a hike (brave the walk from the change rooms to the tub first).Outside of a Rustic lodgeBuffalo Mountain Lodgesnack shop in Banffgirl in the snow outside a cabinsmiling ini the snowWatching the snowflakes fall outside girl wearing winter clothesDrinks by the fire is the best way to end the day: I highly recommend it.
