Bacardi Distillery: Puerto Rico
Wherever I travel, I always enjoy visiting distilleries, breweries, wineries, etc. I like to tell people that I'm a liquor enthusiast (and not a functioning alcoholic). Haha. But seriously, these places always provide an interesting look into local culture and history. That was certainly the case at Casa Bacardi distillery in Puerto Rico.
As soon as you arrive, they place a mojito in your hand (pretty much). It was certainly one of the best mojitos I've ever had - and we got to keep the glasses!
While waiting for our tour to begin, we enjoyed sipping on the mojitos under this shaded area. The only downside to visiting the Bacardi distillery was the long Uber over from Old San Juan. This drink was much needed afterwards.
The tour driver took us on a short tour of the grounds before we headed inside to the main educational centre. Here you can also take mixology classes and do tastings (we opted just for the basic guided tour).
I was surprised at how much I learned about rum in general. I'm much more of a whiskey girl, so this was my first time at a rum distillery.
The buildings were beautiful. The tour phenomenal. I definitely gained a new appreciation for Bacardi!
