My Top 10 Favourite Travel Quotes and Why

For the second time, blog day has come around and I have nothing to post. I was going to post about my Banff weekend trip, but it’s not ready yet, and since I was in Banff, I didn’t have time to work on any more blog posts from my Europe trip. SO! I will be doing something up in the similar fashion of my post “Top 5 Reasons I Love to Travel”.Jellyfish in the Vancouver Aquarium, Stanley Park, Vancouver, Canada - August 2015Here it is: “My Top 10 Favourite Travel Quotes and Why”(These are in no order of preference, by the way)Spiderweb in Stanley Park, Vancouver - August 2015“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn BattutahThis is one of my favourite travel quotes because it’s just so true! I may be biased, but I love listening to anyone’s stories of their travels, and you know I can talk about mine all day. I find people who have traveled not only have lots of stories to tell, but the BEST stories to tell. Whether it’s just taking a weekend trip to the next city, or backpacking for a month in another continent, the stories are always fantastic. I especially love how people light up when they start speaking of their travels.Summit of Sulfur Mountain in Banff, Canada - May 2016“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.” – Jack KerouacYES. Excuse the language, but this guy knows how to motivate. My best memories are the ones where I was exploring something or someplace new. When I look back on my life, I want it to have been filled with awesome adventures with my loved ones. I am a huge advocate for living life to the fullest and being your best self, and for me, travel is how I achieve that.Beach near Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica - April 2013We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. – AnonymousBasically what I said about the previous quote: be passionate about your life and do the things you love.Jasper National Park, Canada - May 2012Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind. – Anthony BourdainI like this one because you should let travel change you, and it will change you if you let it. Also the thought of doing something good for the world, and making a positive mark really inspires me. As a traveler, I feel it is part of my duty to be contentious about how I affect this planet so maybe we can keep it this way for future generations, and even for my future self.Boboli Gardens, Florence, Italy - September 2015Investment in travel is an investment in yourself – Matthew KarstenTravel is 100% an investment. There are so many studies on how traveling positively affects your health and general well-being. It’s something to get excited about; if it makes you happy, then it’s worth the investment.Within the Bridge of Sighs, Venice, Italy - September 2015Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one’s lifetime. – Mark TwainMark Twain hit it on the nose. Travelers are not only the best story tellers (ahem Mark Twain), but also some of the most open-minded, accepting, and loving people. Stepping outside of the box, your comfort zone, allows you to have a much wider view of the world. If everyone could empathize and understand other cultures better, wouldn’t that make the world a little brighter? Wouldn’t it make the world a little less hateful? I think so.Fira, Santorini, Greece - September 2015The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page – Saint AugustineThe world is my favourite book. I love learning about this wonderful world that we are blessed to walk. I want to see the diversity on this beautiful planet, and I cannot see it all from home. A person can read books and watch documentaries, but it is not the same as being there. I’ve learned so much from my travels, and it’s my favourite way to learn.Abandoned outdoor Polar Bear exhibit in Stanley Park, Vancouver, Canada - August 2015Not all those who wander are lost – JRR TolkienOkay, so I included this one because I’m a Tolkien fan (represent!). But seriously, some of the best things to do while your traveling is to just get lost! Unless of course you’re on your way to a booked stop on your itinerary, then you definitely do not want to get lost and you just want to make it there on time so you don’t waste your money. But otherwise isn’t just fun to wander around, maybe to see something new and unexpected?Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica - April 2013I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list – Susan SontagSelf-explanatory. Everywhere is definitely on my list. When people ask me where I want to go, I point to a world map. When people ask me where next, I weep because I can’t decide.Beach near Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica - April 2013Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures. – Lewis CarollHint, hint.
