Thanksgiving Dinner (with Recipes)

Seasoning the turkey

My family and I had our thanksgiving dinner early this year, which worked out well because I can share our meal just in time for everyone else’s! We decided to try a few new dishes this year, and they all turned out rather delicious.

Seasoned Thanksgiving turkey

I used this Classic Roast Turkey with Herbed Stuffing and Old-Fashioned Gravy recipe – the only thing I changed (as Baba insisted) was adding eggs to the stuffing as it helps to keep it sticking together instead of going too crumbly, as well as adding far larger amounts of herbs to the outside of the Turkey (the more flavor the better, right?).

Putting the turkey in the oven

While our turkey cooked in Baba’s well-loved roaster, Julianna started on the Fall Sangria recipe we chose from Pinterest to compliment the menu.

It was amazing, but could have used less cranberries (we went with frozen instead of adding ice) and more of the good stuff (we added vodka in after our first sip!).

Cheers to fall sangria success!

We chose cooked beets and brussels sprouts as our vegetable sides; the beets were kept simple with butter, salt, and pepper, and I chose a new recipe for the sprouts.

I would definitely make it again! I did use ground garlic pepper instead of regular pepper, and ample amounts of it, just because I found it a bit sweet at first.

Brussel sprouts

I also shredded the sprouts after cooking so it would be a bit more on the casserole/salad side of things. Baba made her famous cabbage rolls and meatballs, Julianna her mashed potatoes, and we threw together our favourite kale bagged salad, and viola – dinner was served.

After a much needed break from food, we finished off the night with a homemade pumpkin pie!

I was surprised how comfortable this chambray shirt from Gap was, perfect for the much needed room after a big meal.

Thanks for reading, and let me know if you try any of these recipes! I hope your family’s Thanksgiving is as blessed as mine was.

Happy Thanksgiving!
