No. 20 B&B in Helensburgh, Scotland
After our first day of driving in the UK (you can read my tips here) we were looking forward to our stay at No. 20 B&B in Helensburgh. Nestled at the end of Craigendoran Ave, it’s just a short skip away from the Clyde Estuary.
Arriving at No. 20 B&B
Our host, Catriona, greeted us warmly. I was immediately drawn to her Scottish accent and friendly demeanour. She made us feel at home, helping us up to our room, The Heron. The suite is stunning and spacious with a view of the Clyde, and has a lovely private bath next door.
I couldn't wait to get outside after settling in; the sunset was dreamy and we had missed a lovely day of weather in the car. Derek and I were eager for a stroll by the old dock we could see in the distance. It was remarkably calm and peaceful there.
Once the wind was biting and the dark was setting in, we headed back to the B&B for complimentary tea and scones. Derek and I sat in the cozy sitting room, enjoying the mix of rustic and Scottish decor as we waited, gathering design ideas for our someday home.
Tea & Breakfast
Catriona brought us the best scones Derek and I have ever had to date, topped with sweet jam and a good cup of tea. I’ve been meaning to email Catriona and beg her for the recipe!
Later that evening, after dinner at the Cattle & Creel, I treated myself to a lovely soak in the large bath before heading to the comfiest bed I’ve found in all my travels. It was like sleeping on a cloud, with sheets so soft you’d never want to leave.
After a very refreshing nights’ sleep, we toddled down to the breakfast room where our host served us the a delicious and filling Scottish breakfast, complete with mouth-watering haggis.
Host Recommended Adventures
Stuffed, Derek and I sat and queried Catriona about what to see in the area to make the most of our day. Our wonderful host went above and beyond, giving us a map and showing us a few highlights around Loch Lomond. She had prepared for us a picnic lunch, which we were quite thankful for later.
On our last morning at No. 20, after yet another amazing Scottish breakfast, Catriona gave us a look at the map again, showing us more exciting stops along our Highland adventure. Derek and I whole-heartily agree that No. 20 B&B is a special place - easily becoming our favourite place in Scotland. This is largely due to Catriona’s endearing and welcoming home and personality, her exceptional hospitality, and knowledge of the local surroundings. I hope to spend more time here someday!***
