Katwijk: Netherlands' Best Beach
After our South Holland road trip, we were going to Leiden for the evening again, but when I mentioned the sea was just a short drive from where we were staying, we decided to check it out. Our GPS brought us to Katwijk beach, just ten minutes from Leiden. Later, we learned Katwijk is one of the top beaches in Netherlands. With its convenient parking, cute boardwalk, private cabanas, and little beach houses, it’s not hard to see why. Apparently they have a lighthouse that’s quite historic too, although we didn’t see it. Our evening was spent here, lounging and enjoying the soft white sand between our toes. There were lots of families playing on the beach, flying kites or building sand castles. After collecting seashells, we decided to sit at one of the beach tables for a Pina Colada. Delicious! It was the perfect way to unwind after a busy day.Although it was too cold for a dip, I enjoyed listening to the sound of the waves on the beach. While a perfect getaway for Netherlands natives, it’s still worth checking out if you’re in the area.
