Sylvan Lake, Alberta: Not Just a Summer Destination

Every Albertan has probably been to Sylvan Lake in the summer. Cars driving in circles searching for a place to park, blankets lined back to back on the beach, a mile long line for Moo’s, boats in danger of bumping in to each other: it’s not exactly the perfect summer getaway, but at least it’s nearby.

Now Sylvan Lake in the off-season is a completely different story. It’s a quaint and peaceful town with seaside vibes - Alberta’s very own Nantucket. The quiet days and chilly air are perfect for exploring the town’s picturesque homes and adorable streets. There’s even a lighthouse to top it all off. I’m sure a visit later in the spring would grant visitors walks along the shore, and a stop at the near empty ice-cream parlour.

Accommodation prices are more reasonable in other seasons than summer, and finding a table at any restaurant is a breeze. I haven’t tried a poor place to eat there yet! The restaurants, like Sushi Hon, Buk Wildz, and Viva La Sirena, all have really fun decor too.

I would have never thought that I’d want to go back to Sylvan Lake for a visit, but I’ll be adding it to my list of favourite Alberta vacation destinations!
