Sunday Brunch in YEG

Arriving at the restaurant

If there’s anything bloggers love to do its brunch. I am very happy to take part in that stereotype, and am always on the lookout for a new spot. This past Sunday, I found the perfect place! It’s downtown of course, just off Whyte Ave, where most of the best places to eat are in Edmonton. A place for travelers and locals alike: I spied a copy of AFAR in the magazine bin near the door. The name, Under the High Wheel, could only be a nod to the large old fashioned bicycle perched high on the post in the middle of the restaurant. The place was charming and the staff friendly. The décor was fantastic, and the seats by the window were perfect for our Instagram (because let’s be real you can’t have brunch without an Instagram).

My new obsession with Edison Light Bulbs was appeased by their lovely collection hanging from the rustic roof above. When we first sat down, the place was buzzing, but things eventually quieted down near the end of our meals. My sister needed her morning Joe and I couldn’t resist the hot apple cider I saw advertised on the chalk board up front. It was splendid!

Julianna chose the Traditional Breakfast and I went with the Chocolate & Hazelnut Crepe. When the waitress brought out our dishes, we were astounded by the presentation.

It looked good enough to eat! (Which we truly did).

One of my favourite things about this place is their focus on sustainability. I am always a fan of places choosing to support local farmers. It’s much healthier for us consumers too! Our breakfast was delightful, and I can’t wait to go back and try their dinner menu.
